Lake District, Cambridge, Canterbury and Ashford

Left Gigha on the 11:30 ferry and then drove down to the Lake District staying at Waterfoot Campsite close to Lake Ullswater. We started the next day with a walk to Pooley Bridge before driving across the Yorkshire Dales/Moors to The Pheasant Inn camping behind the pub in the car park. Had drinks in the pub by a roaring fire, needed after setting up in the snow flurries.

Left Yorkshire and off to Cambridge after a second failed attempt to visit Ripon. Yet again thwarted by the lack of parking. Stayed in Cambridge Camping and Caravan site about 7 miles from town.

Spent the day walking around Cambridge in the freezing wind and rain. Bought mattress topper for the bed so that should stop any further bruising on my hips. The mattress in the MH is not the best quality.

Then drove to Upminster and collected all the papers for the M/H and borrowed a drill and fixed the kitchen cupboard door. Very bad design, only a couple of tiny screws holding the very large curved door. Replaced then with bolts so should never come loose. Then decided to head to Canterbury for a few nights

Much better sleep on the new mattress. Cycled into Canterbury and then spent the day walking around the town and along the top of the rampart wall. Lovely interesting town but the Cathedral was covered in scaffolding and you could not get a glimpse of it without paying vast sums. Sat down at the river and had our lunch. On the cycle back we got overtaken by a bunch of road cyclists, Davina decided to give chase and stuck to the wheel of some poor guy all the way up the hill, much to the amusement of his mates. We did have the advantage of e-bike power.

Got up early the next day and headed to Farnham to collect the replacement light for my bike. With hindsight it would have been cheaper to buy the light and avoid the 200 mile round trip to Farnham. Headed back to revisit the Broadhembury campsite at Ashford to get everything together, including laundry and booking the train before heading to France the next day.
